Services were held at 12:00 noon at the home in Steen and at 12::30 in the Reformed Church with the Rev. Kolenbrander in charge. Van Batavia's remains were brought to Hull and interment was in Hope cemetery Monday afternoon. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Peter Van Batavia, Louis B. Van Batavia, Case B. Van Batavia, Jake Van Batavia, Henry Heusinkveld and Edward Sohl. The Ladies Aid served lunch to The relatives and close friends, in the American Reformed Church basement following the burial service. Mr. Cornelius Van Batavia was born October 8, 1871 at Nunspeet, Province of Gelderland, in the Netherlands and quietly departed this life early January 2, 1948. At the age of sixteen he came with his parents to America, settling at Hull, Iowa. In 1920 with his family he moved to the Luverne, Minnesota territory. On February 26, 1897, he was united in marriage to Johanna Meester, with whom he was permitted to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary last February, and who now remains to mourn the loss of her faithful companion in life. Their home was blessed by the birth of ten children, though God in His mysterious providence saw fit to take three in death while still of the early ages of two, four and twelve years. Seven children, with their mother, survive him and mourn their loss of a loving devoted father. They are: Louis of Hull, Iowa; Ben of Garretson. South Dakota; Hattie, Mrs. Bert Rozenboom, of Hills, Minnesota; Coba, Mrs. Mark Postma of Doon, Iowa; Anna, Mrs: Henry Hoff of Inwood, Iowa; Dorothy, Mrs. Cleo Conrad of Inwood, Iowa; and Bernard of Luverne. Minnesota. There are also 17 living grandchildren, and one who preceded grandfather in death. One brother, Bert, of Hull, Iowa, shares in the experience of loss. Early in life in Hull, Iowa, he had made confession of his faith in Christ as his Savior, and that faith grew stronger through the years. He was a faithful member of the Reformed Church of Steen, Minnesota, and it was with sincere regret to him that physical conditions made it impossible to attend worship services regularly in the past year.
