There is a discrepancy in the initial for Grace's mother, Sarah (Crow) McGee. In the 1860 Census for Wapello County, her name is shown as Sarah E.P. Crow. A Sarah J. Crow married William J. McGee on March 2, 1871, in Wapello County, Iowa. In Grace's obituary, which I have transcribed below, her mother's middle name is given as Rachel. On the gravestone, her mother's middle initial is shown as P. In her marriage record to G.H. Giltner, her mother's maiden name in given as Sarah Crow. I have found no other Sarah Crow McGees in Wapello County at that time, and I do believe they are all one and the same person. However, I do not know what Sarah's middle name or initial actually was. Obituary from the "Ottumwa Courier," July 22, 1958: Former Sheriff's Widow Is Dead Mrs. George Giltner, 84, widow of a former Wapello County sheriff, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the home of her daughter, Elizabeth L. Giltner at Des Moines. Mrs. Giltner had been in ill health for the past year. She was born September 18, 1873, in Wapello County, the daughter of William James and Sarah Rachel McGee, and had lived most of her life in the Agency-Ottumwa area. Mrs. Giltner was educated in the county schools and was graduated from the Agency High School. She was married March 15, 1894, to George H. Giltner who died in October of 1949. Following his death, she moved to Des Moines to make her home with her daughter. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Cadle division of GIA, 385, and a member of the Rebekah Lodge No. 435 at Agency. Her survivors include two daughters, Mrs. E.R. Guy and Elizabeth, and also a foster son, Dorrance E. Smith of Chicago. The body is at the Jay Funeral Home pending completion of service arrangements. Burial will be in the Agency Cemetery. "Giltner Services," From "Ottumwa Courier," July 23, 1958: Funeral services from Mrs. George H. Giltner, 84, widow of a former Wapello County sheriff, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Jay Funeral Home. The Rev. Earl McGinness, pastor of the Agency Methodist Church, will be in charge. Burial will be in the Agency Cemetery with Rebekah services at the graveside.
