She was employed by the town of Ashland for many years. Her husband Carroll died in 1999 and she was predeceased by a son Christopher in 1973 and by her four sisters Lillian, Lena, Evelyn and Madaline. She was survived by a son and two daughters, eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and by her sister Beverly and brother Rexford. Funeral was held St. Agnes Catholic Church with burial in Green Grove Cemetery. Added by BL Hughes: Ashland Girl Bride of Plymouth Marine Ashland, September 3 — Miss Laeticia Janice Young of this town chose the holiday, her 19th birthday, to become the bride of a young hero of Peleliu, Pfc Carroll Ash, USMC, from the nearby town of Plymouth, veteran of several major campaigns in the South Pacific. The double ring ceremony took place Monday morning in the rectory of St Agnes Church, with Revernd Eugene Dumas officiating. The bride, attractive in long gown of white satin, bouffant style, with train, finger-tip veil and carrying an old-fashioned bouquet, was given in marriage by her father. Her maid of honor was her sister, S 1/c Beverly Young of the waves, who came here for the wedding from Washington, DC Cpl Herbert W Ash, USMC, brother of the bridegroom, served as best man. A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, attended by more than 50 guests. Among out of town guests were Mr and Mrs Percy M Ayer and daughter, Polly, Mrs Willard Wakefield, Mr and Mrs Malcolm Keniston, Mr and Mrs Herbert H Ash, Miss Ethel Foster, William Deachman, Mr and Mrs Glea Wilkie, and Mr and Mrs Royal Brown, noted authors, all of Plymouth; Sgt John Thompson of Campton, just returned from overseas duty in Europe; and S 1/c Virginia Martin of the Waves, Washington, DC, but whose home is in Richmond, Virginia Miss Martin came to the wedding with her friend Miss Young. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Otis Young, is a graduate of Ashland High School, Class of 1944, and Wilfred Academy of Beauty Culture, Boston, this year. Private Ash attended Plymouth High School and enlisted in the Marines January 2, 1942, with his elder brother, Herbert. The brothers trained together and saw service together for a long time until both were wounded at Peleliu last fall, when they separated. The brothers took part in battles in the invasion of Cape Gloucester on New Britain on Christmas Day, 1943. After the New Britain campaign they were sent to a rest base in the Solomon Islands for the summer months, prior to the invasion of Peleliu. Both received leg wounds in this invasion. Herbert was sent to this country. Carroll recovered and was returned to action, and a day later was severely wounded in his left leg. He returned to this country last February. Carroll served as best man at his brother's wedding just a month ago. After a wedding trip, he and his bride will reside in Philadelphia. The Plymouth Record, September 1945.
