Description	:	LAMAR ESBECK, 76, of Hawarden passed away on Monday, October 1, 2007 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Walker and Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Lamar Esbeck was born December 25, 1930, near Brayton, Iowa, to Orville and Amber (Both) Esbeck. He attended Oakfield #7 country school through the 8th grade. He attended Exira High School for 3 years, and then transferred to Atlantic High School for his senior year, graduating with the class of 1949. He attended NW Missouri State at Maryville, Missouri for 2 years, and then attended Iowa State University for 1 year before entering the US Army, where he was stationed in Austria. He returned to Iowa State under the G.I. Bill and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1956. His first teaching job was in Hawarden, Iowa, teaching "Veterans on the farm training." He taught vocational agriculture in Elk Horn, Iowa from 1957 to 1959, and then returned to college at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, obtaining his MA in Psychology and Counseling in 1960. The next several years were spent as a school psychologist in Storm Lake and Sheldon, and later as assistant director of Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, and executive director of New Hope Village, Carroll, Iowa. He also worked at Christian Opportunity Center, Pella, and Western Home, Cedar Falls. From 1987 to 1996 he was a marketing and resource development professional for the Good Samaritan Society in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, retiring in 1996. Lamar was an active member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion in Hawarden. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing with friends, and working in his yard. He also enjoyed his work of fund-raising for handicapped facilities and nonprofit organizations. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Hawarden; his mother, Amber Esbeck of Exira, Iowa; his daughter, Ann (Jim) Alexandres of Salina, Kansas; his step children, Amy (Brian) Vander Wilt of Buffalo Center, Iowa, Jeff (Peggy) Heuer of Johnston, Iowa, and Tim (Jennifer) Esbeck of Clear Lake, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; and 2 great-grandsons. Lamar is also survived by 3 brothers, Eldon (Myrna) Esbeck of Gallatin, Missouri, Roger (Marian) Esbeck of Panora, Iowa and Glenn (Connie) Esbeck of Exira, Iowa; and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Orville; and his son, Steve.
