Lambert was born April 24, 1926 in rural Howells, NE to Bernard and Katherine (Burenheide) Brester. He grew up near Olean, NE area. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 2/6/52 to 11/5/53 and received 2 Bronze Stars. After his military service, he farmed for 7 years near Howells, NE. "Bert" Brester, 88 years, of Fremont, NE died Friday, February 20, 2015 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont. Lambert was born April 24, 1926 in rural Howells, NE to Bernard and Katherine (Burenheide) Brester. He grew up near Olean, NE area. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 2/6/52 to 11/5/53 and received 2 Bronze Stars. After his military service, he farmed for 7 years near Howells, NE. He drove truck for Grosse Rhode Transfer in Olean for 9 years and then for Amoco Oil and Fertilizer in Fremont for 16 years. He then purchased Amoco Oil and Fertilizer in 1983 and operated it until 1991, when he retired. Lambert moved to Colorado Springs in 1992 and returned to Fremont in June of 1999. Lambert married Jean Grosse Rhode on June 28, 1949 at Olean, NE. Jean died October 26, 1998. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont and was 4th degree Knights of Columbus Council #1497 member. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20 of Fremont and member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #200 of Fremont. He is survived by sons, Douglas and wife, Sue Brester of Foley, MN and Timothy and wife, Lisette Brester of Papillion, NE; daughters, Christina A. "Chris" and husband, Ed Hanzel of Fremont and Sheila and husband, Shane Bates of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Irene and husband, George Fiala, Jr. of Howells, NE; sister-in-law, Doris Ann Brester of Lincoln, NE; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Raymond and Lumir Brester; sister, Adeline Vrba; brother-in-law, N.W. Grosse Rhode; and sisters-in-law, Marie Brester, Ethel Lang and Deliah Schukow. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. The Rev. Father Benjamin Boyd will officiate. Knights of Columbus Rosary will be said at 7 PM on Tuesday, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and is open to the public. Visitation on Tuesday from 5 PM to 8 PM with family receiving friends from 6 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home and on Wednesday at church 1hr prior to service. Military honors will be conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20 at the church following service. A private burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at Olean, NE. Memorials may be given to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont." Moser Memorial Chapel, 2170 N.
