He was born October 03, 1916, in Grant County, North Dakota, to Rudolph and Verena (Kopp) Miller. Lambert attended the Tomilson country school. In a building about 26 feeet by 28 feet in dimension, one teacher taught eight grades, having an average of about 30 students each year. The teacher was a janitor and custodian as well. Since the school was in a rural community, students attended classes seven months only, so that their schooling would not interfere wwith their assisting their parents with seasonal farm work. In the 30's during a drought and depression. Lambert signed up for the Civilian Conservation Corps. To his delight, his first train trip took him all the way to California. However, he did not like his assignment to Port Angeles, Washington, located 100 miles northwest of Seattle. Lambert didn't care for the wet, damp climate there. Returning to North Dakota, he courted Regina Ternes, who was from St. Gertrude's, his home parish. They were married on October 14, 1940. They had nine children, Edwin, Rosemary, Charles, Jean, Lillian, Phyllis, Randall, and Sidney. Unfortunately, their fifth child, Pius Leo was killed in action during the Vietnam War. This tragic happening was particularly hard on his mother, Regina. After marriage, Lambert and Regina lived on a farm purchased from Lambert's uncle. They had a diversified farm operation, consisting of milking cows by hand, a fairly large beef cow operation, growing various farm crops and raising hogs and chickens. Lambert liked livestock. When they first started farming, horses were their chief means of power of plowing, seeding, cultivating, for binders, headers and for hauling bundles and grain. In 1974 they turned their farm over to Edwin, their oldest son. They moved to Raleigh, where they ran the post Office Substation. In 1988 they moved from Raleigh to Bismarck, since Lambert's eyes gave him considerable trouble, and he could no longer see well enough to carry on regular work. While on the farm, Lambert served on the Public School Board for 13 years. He was involved in setting up a new district and in the bulding of a new grade school, which included drilling a well five miles south of raleigh. These "Personal Glimpses" were written by Lambert, and will be cherished by his family and friends. He kis survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Edwin, Raleigh, Charles and Marlene, Raleigh, Randall and Brenda, McMinnville, Oregon, and Sidney and Brenda, Bismarck; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sandra Tessler, Bismarck, Rosemary and William Harris, Springfield, Oregon, Lillian and Mark Hoffman, Flasher, and Phyllis and Ron Braun, Rawlins, Wyoming; 17 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Ann, Peter and Amelia, and Ray and Lillian, all of Bismarck; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Celistina Koch, and Ida and Bill Ternes, all of Bismarck. Lambert was preceded in death by his wife, Regina, who died January 08, 2001; one son, Pius; one son-in-law, Richard Tessier; and one sister, Gretchen Miller.
