On June 23 in Uithuizen, Groningen, a thirteenth child, a girl named Bertha, was born to the Lammert Wierenga family. In Neerlandia, on July 11, a boy named Simon, and also the thirteenth child, was born to the Klaas Tuininga family. Both were born into very poor families.
