Lana Lavonne Wipf was born on June 1, 1951 in Huron, SD to Maurice and Evelyn “Tootie” (Fountain) Wipf. She was raised and received her education in Miller, SD, graduating from Miller High School in 1969. Read More	Lana Lavonne (Wipf) Thury, age 63, died on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at her home in Sioux Falls, SD. Lana Lavonne Wipf was born on June 1, 1951 in Huron, SD to Maurice and Evelyn “Tootie” (Fountain) Wipf. She was raised and received her education in Miller, SD, graduating from Miller High School in 1969. While in high school, Lana was active in cheerleading, baton twirling (Winning 2nd place in the SD State Championship in 1968), and attended Girls State in 1969. She then attended SDSU in Brookings and graduated in 1973. Lana moved to Flandreau, SD where she worked for a short time. She then moved to Sioux Falls, SD and was employed as a Medical Technologist at Avera McKennan Hospital While in Sioux Falls, she met and fell in love with Robert Thury. They were married on May 31, 1975 in Miller, SD. They made their home in Sioux Falls and were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Andrea. Lana then spent many years working in the IT Department at Central Plains Clinic and finished this career as an Application Support Specialist in 2003. She later worked for the Sioux Falls School District as a teacher’s aide; caring for students with special needs. Lana loved spending time with her family and friends; especially camping and boating. She enjoyed tending to her garden and feeding all the animals in the neighborhood. She was a member of St. Lambert Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. Survivors include her husband, Robert Thury, Sioux Falls; daughter, Andrea Thury, Oak Park, IL; mother, Evelyn “Tootie” Wipf, Louisville, KY; brother, Jeffery Wipf and his wife, Suzanne, Louisville, KY; mother-in-law, Millie Thury, Sioux Falls; sister-in-law, Carol (Todd) Person, Sioux Falls; and many other relatives and friends. Lana was preceded in death by her father, Maurice Wipf in 1995; two brothers, Danny Wipf in 1996 and infant Cory Wipf in 1970; and father-in-law, Norbert Thury. Her family was grateful for the staff at Interim Home Care, and staff at Compassionate Care Hospice. Lana spent the last six weeks of her life at home with her Mother, daughter, and family by her side. Funeral: Friday, October 10th 2014 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD.
