Evans, 75 years of age, had walked to Main avenue during the morning and carried home a sack of groceries. He had been in good health. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 o'clock at Trinity Methodist church. Evans was for 57 years a Ritzville resident. He was born September 18, 1890, in Virginia. He formerly operated a restaurant and bakery at the location now occupied by the Whisperin Palms. He also built and owned the present Ahern Electric building used for a period of years by a J. C. Penney store. From 1933 to 1937 Evans was mayor of Ritzville. He was active in the Ritzville Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of F&AM lodge No. 101 of Ritzville, as well as of the Odd Fellows lodge here. He belonged to the Methodist church. Evans served from 1917 to 1919 in World War I. He is survived by his wife Gertrude at the home, 505 South Adams; by a son Wesley, also of Ritzville; and two grandchildren. The grandchildren are Jimmie of Ritzville and the former Beverly Evans, Mrs. Harlan Thrall of Marlin. The Thralls have one son, Troy, a great grandson of the deceased. The Rev. James Updike conducted the funeral service. Gordon Swyter sang "In The Garden" and "The Lord's Prayer." Accompanists were Mr. Orville Moeller and Miss Margaret Baumann. Vault entombment was at Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Danekas Funeral chapel had charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Edward Cross, W. H. Proctor, S. E. Edwards, Jake Hoefel, H. E. Maas and Robert Stanfield. Honorary pallbearers were Otto Pfannekuchen, Frank Heimbigner, Frank Marshall, L. E. Haight, C. Wentworth, Otto Halwas, Ed Tesch, Ben Snyder, G. F. Weber, Jed Rowe, Kenneth Colwell, Ed Franks, Paul Geschke, Frank West, Paul Fickle and Richard Dehnel.
