At the age of 15,... Read More	Lanell Ophelia (Morgan) Smith East Wenatchee, WA Lanell Ophelia (Morgan) Smith, 91, passed away on February 28, 2012, due to complications from a lifelong illness. She was surrounded by her family, who had been caring for her in her East Wenatchee home. Lanell was born September 4, 1920, in Oxford, AR to Leeman W. Morgan and Bulah (Tatum) Morgan. She was the third of four children and while growing up, she worked on the farm, doing everything her brothers and father would do, except run the hay cutter; always in a dress, never in pants or overalls. At the age of 15, she was baptized into the Church of Christ and lived by the scripture of faith, Hebrews 11:6, until she went to her heavenly home. On December 20, 1937, at the age of 17, Lanell married Arthur B. Smith in Salem, AR, in a double ceremony with her brother, Sewell Morgan and sister-in-law, Caulma (Gifford) Morgan, as each other's witnesses. While living in Arkansas, Lanell and Arthur B. Smith had three children. In 1943, they moved their family to East Wenatchee and had four more children. Upon moving to Washington, they moved originally to Ox Team Orchard for a few years, before they bought their first home in East Wenatchee. While her children were growing up, Lanell knew most everyone from Rock Island to Orondo through school events with her kids, and the jobs that she worked, which ranged from orchard work to being a head sorter for Cherry Best. Lanell really enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidering, and making afghans and doilies. Everyone in the family always looked forward to her soups, jellies, jams, dried fruit, and baked goods. Everyone loved her yard and claimed she worked too hard, but her yard work was her passion. She'd much prefer to give of herself and her possessions than to receive. She was a wonderful sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. Lanell will truly be missed. Lanell Smith is survived by her baby brother, Clarence Leon "Pete" Morgan of Cummings, GA; her seven children, Ella Fern Langhoff of College Place, WA, William Lee "Bill" Smith of East Wenatchee, James "Morris" Smith of Chuathbaluk, AK, Sammy Eugene Smith of Grants Pass, OR, Della May Bjerk of Bend, OR, Clarence Ray Smith of Newman Lake, WA and Shell Morgan Smith of East Wenatchee; and her 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and seven fifth generation grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur B. Smith; her parents, Leeman W. and Bulah Morgan; brother, Sewel Morgan; sister, Cordia Harmon; sister-in-law, Caulma Morgan; and her twin granddaughters, Carrie and Terry Smith. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at King's Orchard Church of Christ, 1610 Orchard Street, Wenatchee. Concluding Services and Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Viewing will be held Monday, March 5, 2012, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Philadelphia House, 228 N. Chelan Avenue, Wenatchee. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
