After moving to Banning he built custom homes in Palm Springs. He was average height and weight, very assertive, generous, a happy drunk, and very kind to Gary. Upon discharge from the US Army, Lannes bought Gary a new Lincoln. Lannes also gave his in-laws $450 per month for several years before their death. He and Velma liked to drink together. He quit drinking in 1961 after a doctor warned him about his health. He kept a bottle of whiskey as a reminder that he could say no to alcohol. He died of a heart attack in his pickup on his way back from a dam construction job in southeast Missouri. Lannes referred to his father as a part time preacher and part time drunk. His mother Ella was a Very sweet person." "Pat" as he was called, or "Blackie" sometimes due to his dark tan, was a carpenter, contractor and builder. He owned LH Vick construction in Sikeston. Came to Banning, CA in 1947. He was named after a son of his mother's friend, a Mrs. Ogilvie, whose son was Lannes Cleotis Ogilvie who was born about 1898 and lived in Charleston, MO at the time Lannes was born. Lannes Ogilvie is buried in Grand View Cem, Glendale, CA, find a grave #29184365. There is no known family connection between the VICKs/HENRY's and Ogilvie.
