Larry Edward Coghlan was born in Boone, Iowa, on August 31, 1938, the son of Russell and Nancy (Harris) Coghlan. He graduated from Boone High School in 1956. Read More	Larry Coghlan, age 78, of Boone, died September 1, 2016, at the Madrid Home in Madrid. Larry Edward Coghlan was born in Boone, Iowa, on August 31, 1938, the son of Russell and Nancy (Harris) Coghlan. He graduated from Boone High School in 1956. Larry also graduated from DMACC - Boone Campus and later attended the University of Northern Iowa. On June 9, 1962, Larry married Beverly Peter at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. He was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation, first as a bridge designer, and later as a computer programmer. Larry then worked as a system analyst for the Iowa Department of Health in Des Moines. After retirement, he worked part time as a salesman for Jax Sporting Goods in Ames and he loved sharing his knowledge with customers. Larry was a member of the Boone County Sportsman's Club and Trinity Lutheran Church where he enjoyed teaching Bible study. He served over 30 years with the Iowa National Guard. Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing, skeet and competition trap shooting, vegetable gardening, especially tomatoes, cantaloupe, and watermelons, and dining out. Larry also enjoyed reading and listening to the music of Johnny Cash. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Richard Solheim. Larry is survived by his wife Beverly of Boone; two sons David Coghlan of Boone and John Coghlan of La Porte; a daughter Kim Shadle and husband Randy of Boone; a sister Lynn Solheim of Lone Tree, Colorado; a nephew Chris and a great nephew Trevor; and two grandchildren, Alex Coghlan and Sam Coghlan, both of Waverly. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone with Pastor Lindsay Watkins officiating. Following the service, he will be cremated and burial of his cremains will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the Church on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until service time. The family will be present to receive friends starting at 10 a.m. In memory of Larry, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.
