Description	:	Larry Edward Jacobsen was born at the Jacobsen family farm in Avoca, Iowa on August 17, 1941 to Herbert and Verna Suhr Jacobsen. Larry was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa. For his elementary education he attended country school. He went to Walnut High School and graduated with the class of 1960. He married Sherry Hansen on July 17, 1965 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Treynor, Iowa. Read More	Larry Edward Jacobsen was born at the Jacobsen family farm in Avoca, Iowa on August 17, 1941 to Herbert and Verna Suhr Jacobsen. Larry was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa. For his elementary education he attended country school. He went to Walnut High School and graduated with the class of 1960. He married Sherry Hansen on July 17, 1965 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Treynor, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Tomas, Shelley and Jason. Larry was an over the road Truck Driver for all his working life until he had to retire in 1986 due to Crohn's Disease. Larry's health may have forced him into retirement, but what the road lost, the city of Walnut gained. If you were looking for Larry he could be found at his concession stand at the basketball games cooking ribs, chili and potato soup among a whole menu of other items or at the baseball and football fields. He chalked the lines and painted the WALNUT and WARRIORS in the end zone. He loved the community of Walnut, and he loved the boys he coached in baseball - and they loved him back. The list of pallbearers are only a small representation of the men whose lives he changed over the course of his life. Baseball may have been the sport he coached, but love of life, love of people and love of community were the training he gave to those around him. Larry was a Church Board Member, School Board Member, Booster Club Organizer, beloved A Cub Coach, Optimist Club Member, and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Walnut, Iowa. Larry received a Governor's Award for volunteer work in the community. The Walnut community honored him for this same service with a flag pole and plaque in his honor at the park. Larry would give you the shirt off his back and it was clear that he touched people with his selflessness. The family has been overwhelmed with blessings from the community before his sickness, during his sickness and now upon his death. Larry was funny, loved life, loved people, and lived life with joy! Larry's grandchildren meant the world to him and his special love for them made each one feel as if they were his favorite. Larry died at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 12, 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Verna Jacobsen and his brother, Herbert Jacobsen, Jr. Celebration of Life services for Larry Jacobsen were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16th, at the Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca. Burial was in the Layton Township Cemetery at Walnut. [Funeral card information]
