Description	:	Larry Eugene Jones, 74 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Larry was born May 17, 1943, the second of six children born to Elmer F. and Viola M. (Blauvelt) Jones. He grew up on the family farm north of Loomis. Read More	Larry Eugene Jones, 74 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Larry was born May 17, 1943, the second of six children born to Elmer F. and Viola M. (Blauvelt) Jones. He grew up on the family farm north of Loomis. Larry received his primary education at Loomis, Nebraska, and then graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1961. Following his education, Larry began a career as a Hardware Consultant with AHC Builders Service in Denver, Colorado from 1961 until 1976. During this time, Larry met the love of his life, Lynn S. Rowe, and the couple were united in marriage on March 8, 1980 at Holdrege. Larry served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict, stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in February of 1968. In 1976, Larry returned to Phelps County, and made his home northeast of Loomis, where he was self-employed in woodworking, furniture and trim refinishing, and residential/commercial painting until his retirement in 2013. He took great pride in his workmanship, and specialized in refinishing small wood projects, and in his spare time he enjoyed making wooden wall hangings and shadow cut-outs including windmills and wildlife. On October 20, 2000, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lynn. Larry sold their acreage and moved to a small farmhouse and acreage north of Funk, Nebraska where he enjoyed the wildlife and scrounging for arrowheads. He then moved to an apartment in Holdrege. Due to his failing health, he began to make his home this past year at the Christian Homes Care Community. In the true sense of the phrase, outdoorsman; Larry loved pheasant and deer hunting, as well as hunting for unique rocks and arrowheads. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, birdwatching, and animal photography. Larry always had a great time playing golf with his brothers and nephews. Besides his wife, Lynn; Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and sister-in-law, Carole Ann. Larry leaves to celebrate his life; his sisters: Catharyne Halbur and Pat Renquist of Holdrege; Corliss Stewart and her husband, Norman of Kearney, Nebraska, and Laura St. Clair and Will Watson of Arapahoe, Nebraska; brothers: Kim Jones of Alma, and Nathan Jones and his wife, Debbie of Lingle, Wyoming; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Larry appreciated Linda Boetcher as a compassionate care-giver, friend, and loving companion along with other caregivers while he resided at his home. He also received compassionate and tender loving care from all staff at Christian Homes and the ruralMED Hospice team. Celebration of Life Service for Larry E. Jones were held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Tom Thompson officiating. Military honors were provided by the U.S. Army Military Honor Guard at the service. A private family inurnment will be held at the Bainbridge Cemetery in Harlan County, Nebraska. The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege was in charge of the arrangements.
