Description	:	Larry Lorensen, 72, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Friday, August 12, 2016 at Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, Iowa following a lengthy illness. Memorial Services will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Rexwinkel-Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Reverend Lil Johnston from St. John's Lutheran Church – Preston Township, rural Akron will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. until service time on Sunday at the funeral home. Larry Gene Lorensen was born December 25, 1943 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Leslie and Dorothea (Taylor) Lorensen. He attended school in Akron and graduate from Akron High School in 1962. Following high school, he worked at Otis Radio in Hawarden. He was united in marriage to Judy Helmrichs on October 24, 1964 at St. John's Lutheran Church – Preston Township. Early on, they made their home in Akron. Larry began working for I.B.P. in Sioux City. In 1975, they moved to Le Mars. Larry began working for Conoco in Le Mars and later, he owned and operated Big A Auto Parts in Le Mars. After selling the business, he went to work for Wells' Dairy in Le Mars. He retired due to his health after working for Wells' for over 20 years. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed classic cars and attending many car shows over the years. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family at Lake Okoboji. Survivors include his wife of over 51 years, Judy of Le Mars; his daughters: Julie (Perry) Husman of Valencia, CA, and Dawn (Jason) Freeman of Greer, SC; 5 grandchildren: Caleb Freeman, Tanner Husman, Taylor Husman, Braden Freeman, and Easton Freeman; his aunt: Elaine Lorensen of Akron, IA; his sister in law: Beverly Lorensen of Lead, SD; and numerous cousins.
