He was born November 26, 1931 in Leonard, Missouri to Weldon Wayne and Mabel Glendora Peel Hershey. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, square dancing, playing cards, and spending winters in Donna, Texas away from the cold weather. He was affiliated with the Troy United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Carol Hershey; daughter, Marla (Chris) Piper of rural Bloomfield; two sons, Kevin (Bobbie) Hershey of rural Milton, Iowa, Tracy (Stephanie) Hershey of Des Moines; eight grandchildren, Holly (Neal) Logan, Sadie (Michael) Lee, Luke (Regan) Piper, Seth (Nicole) Hershey, Syd (Johnny) Hershey, Dexter (Dakota) Christy, Drew Hershey, Alex Hershey; 14 great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Paul Langford, Doug (Cindy) Langford; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vicki (Leonard) Neff of Russellville, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Hershey; three brothers, Lindale Hershey, infant Leo Dwayne Hershey, infant Teddy Leon Hershey; and an infant sister, Glenda Grace Hershey. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Troy United Methodist Church with Pastors Donna Olinger, Gordon Hawkins, and Darrell Zook officiating. Burial will be at the Troy Cemetery in Troy, Iowa. Military rites will be performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 3-5:00 p.m. at the Troy United Methodist Church. A memorial has been established to the Alzheimer’s Association.
