Larry was born July 19, 1930, the son of Lester and Hazel Engelbart Hall, in rural Poweshiek County, near Brooklyn. Hall, 80, of Malcom, died Dec. 9, 2010, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Larry was born July 19, 1930, the son of Lester and Hazel Engelbart Hall, in rural Poweshiek County, near Brooklyn. He was raised on a farm in the Montezuma area and was a 1948 graduate of Montezuma High School. On Feb. 14, 1949, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Ford in Brooklyn. The couple lived in Montezuma and later moved to Malcom in 1951. He was employed with the Malcom Elevator for a few years and then with Poweshiek Pellets, where he drove a truck and ran the mill. He retired in 1995, and during his retirement he returned to the elevator for seasonal work. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church where he served on several boards. Larry enjoyed sharing his time with his family. He took great pride in his yard work and tending to his vegetable garden. He enjoyed most sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was a good football player while in high school and was very proud that his Montezuma Braves football team was honored a few years ago for their success on the field. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of Malcom; four children, Michael Hall of Malcom, Sherry (Bob) Gauley of Bloomington, Ill., Pam (Nick) Cronbaugh of Hartwick, and Lisa (Keith) Cable of Bryon, Ga.; two sisters, Bonnie Hall and Donna Watson of Montezuma; three brothers, Dean Hall of Montezuma, Arlo Hall of Des Moines, and Jack Hall of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Nel Powell; and one brother, Marlon Hall. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. John Reynolds, Jr., pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church in Malcom officiating. Organist was Denise Baustian. Pallbearers were Ryan Cronbaugh, Christopher and Douglas Gauley, Christian Kahawalage, Brendon, Bryce and Blake Kuesel, Matthew McClintock, and Lloyd Stork. Honorary bearers were Nicole Kahawalage, Chantel McClintock, Kari and Matthew Muscolo, and Amy Stork. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. Memorials may be directed to the First United Presbyterian Church in Malcom.
