Description	:	This community was shocked and saddened by the news last Friday of the farm tractor accident which took the life of Larry Vorderstrasse, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Vorderstrasse of Chester. Larry was working on the G.F. and Vincent Henstorf farm, three miles east and three-fourths mile south of Chester, where the accident occurred. Read More	This community was shocked and saddened by the news last Friday of the farm tractor accident which took the life of Larry Vorderstrasse, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Vorderstrasse of Chester. Larry was working on the G.F. and Vincent Henstorf farm, three miles east and three-fourths mile south of Chester, where the accident occurred. About 9:45 a.m., he and Adolph Firley, Jr., another employee on the Henstorf farm, were each taking a tractor to the field to plow. Just south of the driveway to the Henstorf farm home, Larry passed Adolph and turned to wave, lost control of the tractor which overturned on him in the bar ditch, causing death instantly. Adolph ran the quarter-mile to the Roy Canfield farm and called the Chester Fire Department and Rescue Unit. Members of the fire department arrived at the accident scene shortly after and removed the tractor. The Chester ambulance took Larry to the hospital at Hebron where he was pronounced dead. Larry, 17, would have been a member of the senior class of Chester High School this fall. He was an outstanding student and athlete, was active in 4-H work, and his church, and was popular and well liked by all. Obituary - Larry William Vorderstrasse, son of Alvin C. Vorderstrasse and his wife Lydia nee Meyer, was born April 18, 1946, at Deshler, Nebraska. He entered his eternal home in heaven, July 26, 1963, near Chester, having attained the age of 17 years, 3 months and 8 days. He was baptized in infancy, May 19, 1946, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stoddard. He received his elementary education in the Christian Day School at St. John's Lutheran Church in Chester, and was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church April 10, 1960. He had completed his junior year of high school in Chester last May. Larry was a devout Christian, putting faith in God first in his life. At the time of his death, he was serving his Lord as usher in his congregation and as president of its youth organization, the Walther League. He was a faithful member of its Bible class for young people. He was a good student, achieving honor roll standing in his studies. This summer he was selected to attend Boys State. He enjoyed his school associations and served as student body president. He was interested in community affairs and served as president of the 4-H club of which he was a member. Yet, although he received many honors and awards, he remained humble through it all. Besides his parents, he leaves to mourn his passing, one sister, Ann; his grandmothers, Mrs. Sena Vorderstrasse of Chester and Mrs. Alvina Meyer of Concordia, Ks.; many other relatives and a host of friends and acquaintances. Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord. Funeral services were held Monday, July 29, at 10:00 from St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, the Rev. Robert J. Leege officiating. Miss Norma Flathman sang, accompanied by Walter Firnhaber at the organ. Pallbearers were Jerry Johnson, Robert Parker, Wayne Flathman, Roland Rossmiller, John Claybaker and John Schlife. Interment was in St. John Lutheran cemetery (sic), Chester. Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
