Description	:	Lars A. Otterness died at 6:00 this morning at the Deaconess hospital after a severe illness of three weeks from pneumonia and complications. He had put up one of the gamest fights against odds ever seen in a sick room, but he lacked the vitality to withstand the successive attacks that a seemingly relentless fate had brought against him. Mr. Otterness was taken ill three weeks ago after a long, cold ride in the country, influenza being the first ailment. Otterness died at 6:00 this morning at the Deaconess hospital after a severe illness of three weeks from pneumonia and complications. He had put up one of the gamest fights against odds ever seen in a sick room, but he lacked the vitality to withstand the successive attacks that a seemingly relentless fate had brought against him. Mr. Otterness was taken ill three weeks ago after a long, cold ride in the country, influenza being the first ailment. This soon turned into double pneumonia and then his heart became affected from the strain. Two weeks ago his life was despaired of but he rallied and was apparently well on the way to recovery. Early this week, however, pus formed on the right lung and it became imperative that it be drained out. He had been at his home but was removed to the hospital for the operation. He withstood it splendidly and seemed improving until Tuesday, when his heart again went back on him. A few hours later a stroke of apoplexy seized him and then it was only a question of hours. He was unconscious for the last two days. Mr. Otterness was one of the best loved men in the community. The soul of honor, he turned every dollar he could raise by mortgaging his home and borrowing on his life insurance when the Farmers National Bank, of which he was vice president, failed over a year ago. He tried to secure the organization of a new bank to take over the assets of the old, in the belief he could thereby save more for the depositors. That failed and he turned to a loan agency business to make a living. He worried greatly over the downfall of the bank though he always was held blameless, and his friends declare the bank failure is what eventually killed him. He was run down and in poor physical condition when the illness seized him. He was 43 years old, a native of this county, being born on the homestead north of town. He leaves his wife Alma and seven small children: Lyle, Harlan, Ruth, Omar, Ronald, James and Alice; besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.J. Otterness, his brother Jens and his three sisters: Mabel, Ida and Florence. The funeral arrangements had not yet been made this afternoon.
