Description	:	OBITUARY OF LAURA HARRIS Laura Harris was born October 1, 1883 at Valley Forge, Kansas. She was the daughter and one of four children born to James and Mary Alice Keim Baker. When Laura was four years of age the family moved to Smith Center, Kansas where she spent her early years. Laura was married to John A. Harris at Smith Center in 1903. Laura continued to live on... Read More	OBITUARY OF LAURA HARRIS Laura Harris was born October 1, 1883 at Valley Forge, Kansas. She was the daughter and one of four children born to James and Mary Alice Keim Baker. When Laura was four years of age the family moved to Smith Center, Kansas where she spent her early years. Laura was married to John A. Harris at Smith Center in 1903. In 1907 the family moved to a farm in Chase County. This union was blessed with four sons and four daughters and forty-three years together. John Harris died December 20, 1946. Laura continued to live on the farm and take part in all of the activities of the Blanche Community. In 1960 she moved to Grant and spent many years housekeeping for several of the older residents of Grant. In 1966 Laura entered the Golden Ours Care Home where she has been a cheerful resident. Early Friday morning, July 8, 1977, Laura passed away at the rest home having reached the age of 93 years, 9 months, and 7 days. She is survived by four sons, Elmer of Manroe, Washington, and Bert, Clyde, and Arden, all of Grant, Nebraska; four daughters, Iva McCoy of Grant, May Goodman of Phoenix, Arizona, Alta Eckard of Sumner, Washington, and Zella Bailey of Paxton, Nebraska. 30 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Dan Baker of Red Cloud, Nebraska, and Clarence Baker of Inavale, Nebraska. Services were held July 11, 1977, at 1:30 PM at the Grant Methodist Church with Rev. John Kilgore officiating. The music was by Katherine Carlson, Shari Elsen, and Dolores Sexson, organist. The selections were "Sweeter As the Years Go By" and "The Lights of Homer." The casket bearers were Keith Harris, Larry Harris, Erwin Harris, Emery Harris, Delmar Freeman, and Lawrence Hogsett. Interment was in Blanche Cemetery. The Imperial Republican Newspaper, Imperial, Nebraska, Thursday, July 14, 1977, page 6, column 1.
