Forsythe, Laura Belle Prevatt Laura Belle Prevatt Forsythe, 91, died on Friday, November 12, 2004 at the Hadlow Center of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville. Born in Middleburg, Florida on August 1, 1913 to the Rev. Gideon Asbury Prevatt and Alice Eugenia Harris Prevatt, she was valedictorian of her graduating class at Green Cove Springs High School and attended Massey Business College in Jacksonville. Her father founded Middleburg Baptist Church, now known as the First Baptist Church of Middleburg. In 1937 she married the Rev. Paul Jones Forsythe of Havre de Grace, Maryland. She assisted in his Southern Baptist pastorates in North Carolina, Virginia and the Canary Islands before they retired to Jacksonville in 1977. From 1950 to 1976 she was also an executive secretary in Richmond, Virginia. Her longest tenure there was with the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. After retirement she worked with the editor of the Florida Baptist Witness newspaper for several years. Southside Baptist Church in Jacksonville honored her with a dinner earlier this year for 24 years of teaching Bible classes there. Laura Belle is survived by her husband of 67 years; and their two children, Doralee Forsythe Simko (John) of Jacksonville and Dr. David Prevatt Forsythe (Annette Kovar) of Lincoln, Nebraska. In addition, she is survived by four grandchildren, Lindsey Forsythe of Decatur, Georgia, Lee-Ellen Davidson of Arbutus, Maryland, Stewart Richardson III (Carol) of Reisterstown, Maryland and Lauren Preller of Woodstock, Maryland; her great-grandchildren, Matthew and Bradley Preller, Maggie and Jacqueline Davidson, and Jessica and Kaelyn Richardson. Laura Belle was predeceased by her sisters, Elsie Reta Prevatt of Middleburg and Minnie Lee Prevatt Land of Jacksonville. She was very close to Minnie Lee's daughter, Janet Land McKinney (Jay) who was the flower girl at her wedding and has been like another daughter to her ever since. She is also survived by her dear friend, Bernice Brubaker Kamerling of Jacksonville Beach. The family extends profound gratitude to Dr. David Rice of Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville for his compassionate care during Laura Belle's final illness and to the devoted staff of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard South, Jacksonville. A celebration of Laura Belle's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Southside Baptist Church, 1435 Atlantic Boulevard, Jacksonville, with Dr. R. Wayne Stacy and the Rev. Neil G. Lebhar officiating. Interment will follow in the Prevatt section of the Middleburg United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3925 Main Street, Middleburg. In Laura Belle's memory, contributions may be made to the Southside Baptist Church or to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Fla. 32257.
