Funeral services were held 1:30 Monday afternoon, June 11 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. Laura Siebels was born June 24, 1915 in Wayne Township, Jones County. She was the daughter of Will and Anne Zimmerman Siebels. She received her education in Wayne Township School #8. Laura then went to work at the Reliance Shirt Factory in Anamosa where she was a trimmer and inspector. Laura married Conrad Monck on February 22, 1938 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in Wayne Township for 34 years. While on the farm Laura had a thriving egg business. Conrad died on April 26, 1973. Laura cooked at the A. & W., the Feed Bunk, Camp Courageous of Iowa, the school lunch program and Congregate Meals and cleaned at the German Mutual office. Laura was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. Surviving are three children, Verona (Donald) Swett, Taylor Ridge, IL; Sandra Monck, Lancaster, PA and Doug (Diane) Monck, Monticello; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one brother, Elmer Siebels, Anamosa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Conrad; one son, Leonard and three brothers, Clarence, Vern and Irvin.
