Description	:	Laura Wade was the daughter of Jim Wade and Fannie Soyars, and was conceived when her father received a 20 day leave from the Confederate Army. She was schooled in public schools in Ridgeway, Virginia and enjoyed an active social life. In 1882 she married George King Eggleston, a tobacco farmer. They were the parents of Fannie, Mollie, Edd, Sallie, Georgie, Josie and Samuel. Read More	Laura Wade was the daughter of Jim Wade and Fannie Soyars, and was conceived when her father received a 20 day leave from the Confederate Army. She was schooled in public schools in Ridgeway, Virginia and enjoyed an active social life. In 1882 she married George King Eggleston, a tobacco farmer. They were the parents of Fannie, Mollie, Edd, Sallie, Georgie, Josie and Samuel. George had a hard life, and when he died in 1903, Laura buried him next to her maternal grandparents on their property south of Ridgeway, Virginia. In 1905 Laura and her younger children moved to Danville, Virginia to be near her aunt, Mollie Soyars Hopkins. She rented a home on Park Street in the Schoolfield section and earned a living as a seamstress. When her children left home she broke up house keeping and lived for a time with her brother, Billy Wade, to help care for their mother. Later she lived many years in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she helped raise a granddaughter. It is said she attended the birth of all of her grandchildren but one. In the years that followed she spent her time between her surviving children, carrying with her a suitcase containing the dress she wanted to be buried in. Following a stoke in her late 90's she entered JoLene's Nursing Home in Salisbury, North Carolina, near her daughter Georgie. On the ocassion of her 100th birthday she was intervied on live TV. Upon telling the reporter she had attended dances and pig roasts in her youth, the reported asked if they put an apple in the pig's mounth, to which she calmly replied: "and a tater in his ass". Laura died at the age of 101, having outlived her sibblings. She was survived by 4 children, 64 grandchildren, 128 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Having survived her husband by 62 years, it was no longer possible to bury her with George as the family no longer owned the property.
