Benge Laura E Benge, passed away in Fairfield, at the Jefferson county hospital the morning of January 4, having been in the hospital for over two weeks with a complication of diseases. The remains were taken to the Butler undertaking parlor where a short service was held Jan. 5th by R. H. Pilly, pastor of the Christian church then going over the Rock Island to Floris, Iowa near the old home. The body was layed in the Jay cemetery by the side of the husband and children. Laura E. Benge Laura E Benge, passed away in Fairfield, at the Jefferson county hospital the morning of January 4, having been in the hospital for over two weeks with a complication of diseases. The remains were taken to the Butler undertaking parlor where a short service was held Jan. 5th by R. H. Pilly, pastor of the Christian church then going over the Rock Island to Floris, Iowa near the old home. The body was layed in the Jay cemetery by the side of the husband and children. Laura E. Chambers was born in New Lisbon, Ohio, 17th of February 1848, coming with the mother a young widow with two little girls, coming with her parents, the Sloans in 1856. She was a sister of John M Sloan, one time county treasurer of Davis County and Judge Robert Sloan of Keosaqua, both, now deceased. In a few years the mother died leaving the little girls with relatives. Laura E. was married to Henry Benge in 1878. To them was given three children, only a son, Charles survive, Gertrude Hart and a little son, Wesley, deceased, the husband passing away in 1898. She had a home with the son. She was a good quiet Christian mother, always patient and doing what she could in the home. She leaves to mourn, her loss, the son Charles and grandaughter, Helen in New Mexico.
