She was born in Iowa in 1879 and had made her home in Humboldt County for the past 50 years, living at various times in Eureka, Carlotta and Fortuna. She was the widow of the late James Gordon. Compilation of funeral notices published in The Times Standard on February 12 and 15, 1954 ____________________________________ Laura was the daughter of Sarah Fisher and James Thomas; sister of Eli, Ure, Eldora, Marian, William, May, Estella and Boxford Thomas. At the time of the 1880 census, the family was living in Green Bay, Iowa. Laura was not found in census records again until 1910. By then she was living in Hydesville (her parents were living in Rohnerville in 1900). Laura was married to James J. Gordon and they had four children: Henry (age 13), Ron (age 10), Myrtle (age 8), and a four-year-old daughter whose name is not legible on the census record. Laura's widowed mother, Sarah, was also living with them. In 1920, the Gordons were living in Rohnerville. In addition to their four children, Henry, Jason (listed as Ron in 1910), Myrtle and Vera, they have a one-month-old child, Charles. By 1930, the Gordons had moved to South Fork.
