Description	:	Laura Louise Sophia Holscher, 101, of Faulkton, was called home by her Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Faulkton Senior Living. Funeral services were Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wecota with Pastor Timothy Koch presiding. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Laura was born January 1, 1915 at Wecota, SD to Carl and Sophia (Limberg) Holsing. She spent her first 27 years on the family farm near Wecota helping with household duties, assisting older siblings during illness and the birth of nieces and nephews, as well as caring for her younger brothers. She attended the Lindhorst Grade School and graduated from Cresbard High School. Laura was one of the first 4-H Leaders in Faulk County. Laura was a Sunday School Teacher at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Wecota, where she remained a lifelong member. She was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and made various banners for her church. She made and decorated many wedding cakes for family and friends. She was always willing to paint, wallpaper, and repair items for anyone that asked. On November 10, 1942, she married Albert Holscher. After seven years of marriage her husband died suddenly leaving her with two small children. To support her family, Laura owned and managed the Wecota Grocery Store. In 1955 Laura sold the grocery store and with her children, moved to Salem, Oregon. While there, she worked in the China and Crystal Shop of Allen’s Hardware. After a year, Laura and her family moved back to Wecota. In 1956 she began working at the Faulk County State Bank, retiring in 1977. About every 10 years after her retirement, Laura would start a new hobby. Those hobbies included crocheting/knitting, oil painting, quilting, and making doll houses including the furniture. Many quilts, afghans, doilies, and baby bibs were made for friends and family members. Laura bowled on a team with her friends and thoroughly enjoyed it. She enjoyed researching genealogy, the history of her Church and Faulk County. She assisted in compiling the history of the Carl Holsing family which was printed into a family history book. In 1965 Laura moved from Wecota to Faulkton where she resided until her passing. After spending 99 years living independently, she moved to Faulkton Senior Living. During the admission interview when asked what her long term goal was she said, “I just want to have fun!” Laura is survived by her children: Marilee (Tom) Kuhl of Lamoille, Nevada and Charles (Carol) Holscher, Apple Valley, Minnesota; grandchildren: Jeff Kuhl, Cari (Matt) Anderson, Barclay Holscher, Jodi (Todd) Stebleton, Ashlee (Brady) Schlagel, Karli (Luke) Lundberg; great-grandchildren: Thomas and Katelyn Anderson, Beckham, Felix, Oskar, Levi and Henrik Lundberg, Rowan and Loic Stebleton and Willa Schlagel; brothers: Ivan Holsing and Arvid (Jennie) Holsing; plus many nieces, nephews and friends. Laura was preceded in death by her husband Albert; parents: Carl and Sophia Holsing; stepmother, Nina Holsing; sisters: Linda Holsing, Clara, Dora, and Sophia Niederbaumer; brothers: Walter, Ernest, Victor, Arthur, and Gerald Holsing, Arthur Holscher, and Carl Nolte. The family would like to thank all of the care givers and staff at Faulkton Senior Living for the loving care Laura received while living there. A special thank you to her many friends and family members who visited her so often-she treasured each one of you. Laura’s life revolved around her family and her church. She often marveled at the many changes she had witnessed during her lifetime in the home, community, and the world. Laura touched the lives of everyone she met.
