Description	:	"Funeral services for Laura Iona Engel, 69, formerly of Chadron, were Feb. 27, at the Powder River Congregational Church, in Broadus, Mont., with the Rev. Karalee Mulkey officiating. Interment followed at the family lot in Valley View Cemetery. Mrs. Engel was born June 25, 1930, to Earnest and Laura (McCart) Wilkins, in Alliance [sic]. She died Feb. 23, 1999, in Yuma, Ariz. As a child, Iona grew up on the family farm west of Alliance. On March 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Engel. They moved to the family... As a child, Iona grew up on the family farm west of Alliance. On March 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Engel. They moved to the family ranch 30 miles south of Chadron, where they had five daughters. In 1966 the family moved to Montana and managed a ranch and also the 3-K Club in Broadus. Later they moved to Alaska, where she attended college. Mrs. Engel drove a bus and worked with special education children. Upon retirement, they returned to Broadus to be closer to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1991 they moved to Yuma and enjoyed playing golf, painting, crafts and fishing. She is survived by her mother, Laura Wilkins of Alliance; her husband, Kenneth; five daughters, Linda and husband Tom Yeradi of Chadron, Shirley and husband Charlie Russell of Broadus, Patty and husband Vic Phillipi,also of Broadus, Judy and husband Jay Mellor of Plentywood, Mont., and Diane and husband Tom Whittecar of Rapid City, S.D.; four brothers, Edward Wilkins, Alvie Wilkins, Ervin Wilkins and Gordon Wilkins; a sister, Genevieve Hufford; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, E. E. Wilkins, and a grandson, Davey Richards." Chadron Record (Chadron, Nebraska), March 2, 1999
