Description	:	Stricken with a heart attack which came entirely unexpected, Mrs. J. B. Hurst, one of the well known and long-time residents of the community, passed away at her home west of Madrid Friday. Mrs. Hurst was a daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. J. W. McHaffie who lived for many years northwest of Madrid. She was born in Terra Haute Indiana, January 23, 1872, and at the time of her death July 16th was 71 years, 5 Months and 23 days of age. Hurst, one of the well known and long-time residents of the community, passed away at her home west of Madrid Friday. Mrs. Hurst was a daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. J. W. McHaffie who lived for many years northwest of Madrid. She was born in Terra Haute Indiana, January 23, 1872, and at the time of her death July 16th was 71 years, 5 Months and 23 days of age. When 11 years of age her family came to Boone County from Indiana making the trip in a covered wagon, and established their home in Boone County, in the Meadow Grove community. There she grew to womanhood and on November 1, 1891, was united in marriage to Jacob B. Hurst. This vicinity has been her home since 11 years of age. Mr. And Mrs. Hurst had the pleasure of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 1941. They were the parents of six children, all of whom are living, and all residing not far from their parental home. The sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Hurst came as a shock to her family and her many friends. She was a woman much beloved by all who know her, kindly and modest in her relationships. She was member of the Methodist church and a willing helper in church activities. She was devoted to her family, a good neighbor and friend. Mrs. Hurst was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters. Still living to revere her memories are her husband, four daughters and two sons, Mrs. Martin Finestead of Granger, Mrs. Dessie Roby of Madrid, Mrs. Leonard Klonglan of Des Moines, Mrs. Eldon Hurley of this community, Ralph and Ray both of Madrid; four sisters, Mrs. Agnes Cunningham and Mrs. R. O. Smith, both of Des Moines; Mss. Will Nutt of near Luther, and Mrs. Bessie Tolliver of Boone, one brother, Elmer McHaffie of near Luther; 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Madrid officiated by Rev. Roy E. Gugeler, assisted by Rev. C. A. Carlson. Children:Dessie Blanche (Roby),Fern B.
