Read More	Katherine Miller Blevins, 96 years, daughter of Reuben David and Ruth Laura Shuler Miller, died on March 19, 2011, in Luray, Va. A native of Page County and an educator, she began her career in Pine Grove prior to teaching in the elementary grades at Stanley and Luray schools for 35 years. Born Nov. 19, 1914, in Leaksville, Va., the first of eight children, she contracted polio at a young age and spent much of her childhood in the home of her grandparents, William Harrison and Laura Hottel Shuler. Through their generosity, Katherine attended Madison College and received a Normal Professional degree in 1932. She returned to complete a B.S. degree in elementary education in the early 1960s. From 1966 to 1970, she taught at Magruder Elementary School in York County, where her husband served on the administrative staff at Colonial National Historical Park in Yorktown. She retired in 1973. On Feb. 16, 1947, she married Harley W. Blevins, who died on Dec. 8, 1990. She is survived by a son, the Rev. David Miller Blevins and his wife, Margie, of Remington; a daughter, the Rev. Laura Blevins Douglass of Harrisonburg; two grandsons, Matthew Kyle and Daniel Roby Blevins; a granddaughter, Katherine "Kate" Douglass and a sister, Gloria Menefee of Stephens City, Va.; spouses of her siblings and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. Katherine was predeceased by five sisters, Annabel Shaffer, Alice Dovel, Mary Yates, Janie Rothgeb and Julia Ann Hileman and one brother, Billy Miller. While living in Stanley, she was an active member of Stanley Baptist Church. Her commitment to the church continued at Main Street Baptist Church in Luray when the family moved to "Goshen" in 1961. She loved her large family, which gathered at the Blevins home on many occasions throughout the years. Katherine's life was one of service to others as well. In retirement, she volunteered at Page One and at Luray Elementary School, played the piano at various local nursing homes, and was a member of the Page County Retired Teachers' Association. The funeral service will be at Main Street Baptist Church on Saturday, March 26, at 11 a.m. with the Revs. Charles Jolley, Elizabeth Caudill and L. Douglas Hill officiating. Burial will be at Beahm's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bradley Funeral Home in Luray from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions may be made to Main Street Baptist Church, Luray, Stanley Baptist Church, The Page County Retired Teachers' Association or William S. Kibler Library, Stanley, Va.
