Description	:	Laura L. Meier was born October 28, 1932 in the home of her parents Martin and Alberta (Meyer) Meier in the country near Westfall, Kansas. She was the second of seven children. Laura attended the St. Paul Lutheran School through 7th grade and completed 8th grade school at the St. Johns Lutheran School, both south of Lincoln, Kansas. They made their home on... Read More	Laura L. Meier was born October 28, 1932 in the home of her parents Martin and Alberta (Meyer) Meier in the country near Westfall, Kansas. She was the second of seven children. Laura attended the St. Paul Lutheran School through 7th grade and completed 8th grade school at the St. Johns Lutheran School, both south of Lincoln, Kansas. Following graduation she and her sister Anita worked at the Lincoln Grocery store to help support the Meier family. She worked at the store until she married Edwin Princ October 31, 1954. They made their home on the farm two miles west of Lucas. She spent all but the last 11 months of her life there. Laura was fully involved with the farm all her life. She milked cows and fed baby calves. She raised chickens, ducks, and geese and dressed them for half of Russell County and sold eggs for many years. During harvest she shuffled men from field to field and saw that they were all well fed. Many hours were spent canning and freezing the produce she raised in her large garden to feed her family. After retiring from the Dairy Farm, she spent her later years working at Heartland Hay for a number of years. Laura was also active at the Senior Center in Lucas. During their children's school years Laura and Edwin attended their many school activities. Laura served as a Project Leader and then the Community Leader of the East Wolf 4-H Club. She saw to it that her children learned to work at home and do well at school and she taught them to cook, can, and garden in 4-H. As her children married and had families she was always ready to care for the grandchildren. Nothing gave her more pleasure than spending time with her grandchildren and telling others about them. She enjoyed teaching them on the farm and keeping up with their activities. The past September, a woman who served all her life was faithfully served by the staff at Parkview Manor in Osborne, Kansas. She enjoyed the staff and her every request started with "Please" and ended with a "Thank You". It was there that she passed away on August 17, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin in 2008 and daughter, Diane in 1956. Funeral services were held August 23, 2019 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Sylvan Grove. Interment was in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Lucas-Sylvan News, September 5, 2019
