Horner, 89, of Salisbury, and formerly of Wenona, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury. Born in Powellville on Jan. 10, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Lucinda Hudson Mitchell. Horner - Salisbury - Laura L. Horner, 89, of Salisbury, and formerly of Wenona, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury. Born in Powellville on Jan. 10, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Lucinda Hudson Mitchell. "Miss Laura" was affectionately known as the Avon Lady in the Deal Island area for more than 50 years. She was a homemaker, hard worker and loving wife to her husband, the late Samuel "Hooker" Horner, who died Jan. 31, 1976. She was a loving mother to her family and was a friend to many. She was proud to have been a 54-year cancer survivor. She enjoyed being surrounded by her pets, which brought her hours of pleasure. She was a true Christian lady and member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wenona. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Bill Haslam of Salisbury; her sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Samuel and Pattie Horner of Crisfield, Charles and Ginny Horner and John and Gloria Horner, all of Wenona; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lena Smullen of Salisbury; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Smith; two sisters, Carrie Phillips and Mary Mitchell; three brothers, Nevin, Avery and George Mitchell; a niece, Virginia Matthews; and two grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wenona, where friends may call an hour prior to the service. The Revs. William Hankins and Lloyd Foard will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Cemetery, c/o Joyce White, 9338 Deal Island Road, Wenona, Md. 21870. Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral [Home] in Crisfield.
