C. K. Ruch officiating. Miss Mary Ann Vogelpohl sang "I Love to Tell the Story" and "In the Garden." She was accompanied by Mrs. Byron Vaughan. Laura Louise Dusek, nee Berns, was born May 9, 1901 at Bladen, Nebraska and passed away at her home in Blue Hill on Tuesday, July 3, at 2:15 p.m. after a lingering illness. She was 50 years, 1 month and 25 days of age. She was born the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Haller) Berns and spent her girlhood on the farm south of Bladen. On November 22, 1921, she was married to Joseph Dusek. They lived on a farm south of Bladen until 1932 when they moved to Bladen where they lived until 1937 when they moved to Blue Hill. Seven children, two sons and five daughters, were born to this union. They are Mrs. Lorrie Pike of Blue Springs, Donald Dusek of Fort Riley, Kansas, Mrs. Jean Tjarks of Hastings, Sgt. Vernon Dusek of Camp Carson, Colorado, Mrs. Leona Yelenics of Washington, D.C., Moneta and Dorothy at home. Mrs. Dusek was a loving wife and mother, making many sacrifices for her family. She bore her long illness with courage and patience. Besides her husband, Joe, and her children she is survived by three sisters and four brothers: Mrs. Elmo Clutter of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Ernest Merkel of Champion, Nebr.; Mrs. Millard McNair of Bladen, Joe Berns and Henry Berns of Bladen; Ernest Berns of Lafyette, Colo., and Herman Berns of Culbertson; also five grandchildren, Pamela Sue and Happy Pike, Barbara Joan and Richard Tjarks, and Kathleen Marie Dusek. Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Al Yelenics of Washington, D.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dusek and daughter of Fort Riley, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pike and children of Blue Springs; Sgt. Vernon Dusek of Camp Carson, Colo.; Ernest Berns of Lafyette, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Berns and family of Culbertson; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Merkel of Champion; Mr. and Mrs. Millard McNair, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Berns, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Berns, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Berns, all of Bladen; Mr. and Mrs. Nels Thompson and Robert of Kearney; Mr. and Mrs. Klyoe McNair of Holstein; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Pavelka of Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Juranek of Campbell; Mrs. Emma Shipman of Red Cloud.
