June 4, 1925 - Carroll Times - Word of the death of Miss Laura Diehl, who passed away at Clarinda Sunday, was received with sadness by the residents of this city. For several years she had been in failing health, her mind having become weakened through a nervous disorder. She had been in Clarinda but four days when death relieved her of her suffering. Laura Diehl, as she was known to countless friends, was one of those true Christian women who make the world a better place to live in. Unlike many people even as a young girl, she bore troubles heavily, taking responsibility that others would have passed to another. After the death of her parents she grieved continually and even tried a change of location to quiet her nerves and get a better hold of herself. During her entire illness her sister, Mrs. W.H. Harding, was her constant companion and strove to help her overcome the dreadful disease of the nerves which had fastened itself upon her. Laura was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Diehl and was born at Dallas Center, November 29, 1874. She moved with her parents to Ogden three years later and in 1883 the family located in Carroll county, northeast of the city. Five years later in 1888, they moved to Carroll and until the death of Mr. and Mrs. Diehl the home was at the corner of Thirteenth and Carroll streets. In 1921 she went to make her home with her sisters, Mrs. James Johnson of Pilot Mound, Ia., and Mrs. W.H. Harding of Boone. She resided with them until May 26, when she was taken to Clarinda. Before her illness she was employed in the J.A. Strohm store for 13 years. Her father died December 27, 1915, and her mother September 6, 1917. A brother, Samuel J. Diehl, died January 12, 1923. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. James Johnson of Pilot Mound, Ia., and Mrs. W.H. Harding of Boone, nine nieces and four nephews. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Baptist church, Rev. F.G. Codd officiating. Interment was made in the Carroll cemetery, beside her parents. The Rebekah lodge of which she was a member attended in a body. The Odd Fellows also attended. Out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Warner of Boone; Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Luther of Grand Junction; Mrs. Ora Johnson of Pilot Mound; Mrs. Jonas Mummert of Aurelia, Ia.; and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Sweet of Aurelia.
