Read More	: Obituary for Laura Mae Flanigan After witnessing the arrival of the new millennium and the third century in her lifetime, Garrett County's eldest known resident, 105 year old Laura Mae Flanigan, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000 at her home in Deer Park. Born July 19, 1894, in Deer Park, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Friend. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Emanuel B. King and Walter W. Flanigan. Mrs. Flanigan began working at the Deer Park Inn (?Deer Park Hotel)as a young girl, driving her horse and buggy to the establishment, where she delivered flowers and vegetables. She was a former Deer Park correspondent for The Republican, a member of the Deer Park United Methodist Church, and a longtime member of the Deer Park Homemakers Club. She was also featured in a November 1998 issue of The Republican when, at 104 years of age, she exercised her "responsibility and freedom as a citizen...and went to the polls...to cast her vote." Survivors include one son, Harry R. King, Deer Park; two daughters, Betty Beckman, Oakland, and Dolly Baggett, Fairfax, Va.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 10 great, great, grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted Sunday, January 9, with the Rev. Neil Parsons officiating. Interment followed in Garrett County Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to Southern Garrett Rescue Squad or Deer Park Community Volunteer Fire Department.
