Read More	Obituary from the Ottumwa Courier, Monday, March 13, 1967, Page 1: Mrs. Laura Cohagan Dies; Prominent in Civic Affairs Mrs. Laura Marie Cohagan, 46, of 232 Gara, well known civic worker and wife of Tom Cohagan, died Sunday at 12:20 p.m. at the home of her mother at 118 S. Fellows. She had been in failing health since Dec. 27, 1966. The daughter of August and Eliza Hoover Sporer, she was born in Ottumwa on June 9, 1920, and was a lifelong resident of the city. Mrs. Cohagan was a member of First Christian Church. She was a board member of the Animal Relief League, the Wapello County United Fund, and the Ottumwa Area Development corporation; was secretary of the Mayor's Planning Committee, and also served on the planning committee for the Southeast Iowa Mental Health Association. She was a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and a former board member of the YWCA and the Democratic Central Committee. Her marriage to Tom Cohagan took place in 1940 in Lancaster, Mo. He is clerk of Ottumwa Municipal Court. She also leaves her mother, Mrs. Eliza Sporer; three brothers, Frank and Fred Sporer of Ottumwa and Russell Sporer of Sedalia, Mo.; and one sister, Mrs. Geraldine Roe of Ottumwa. Her father preceded her in death. The service will be Wednesday at 1:30 at First Christian Church with the Rev. Richard Goins, pastor, officiating. Burial will be Shaul Cemetery. The body will be taken from the Jay Funeral Home to the church at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Russell Watters, Beryl Kosman, Don Kosman, Ed Kemp, Ernest Hoover and Lee Crayton.
