Description	:	Laura Mary Schaub was born February 1, 1920 to Frank and Mary (Melchert) Schaub at Grosse, SD. She attended Harrison School in Westpoint Township in Brule County through the eighth grade. She met her future husband, Adam Kulm, while he was working at the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) and they were married on August 20, 1938 in Pukwana, SD. Their business covered communities west to Wall and south to... Read More	Laura Mary Schaub was born February 1, 1920 to Frank and Mary (Melchert) Schaub at Grosse, SD. She attended Harrison School in Westpoint Township in Brule County through the eighth grade. She met her future husband, Adam Kulm, while he was working at the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) and they were married on August 20, 1938 in Pukwana, SD. Shortly after their marriage they founded Kulm Laundry and Dry Cleaners. In addition to this business they also started the first taxi service and first self service laundry in Chamberlain in 1958. Their business covered communities west to Wall and south to the Nebraska state line. After Adam’s sudden death in 1964, Laura continued to operate the laundry service until 1970 when it was sold. Laura continued on at the laundry for several more years. She then began her employment at Casey Drug and Jewelry in Chamberlain where in February 2006 after 32 years she retired at the age of 86. In 2001, she sold her home and moved to a smaller house where she took pride in growing flowers and vegetable gardening. She moved to Regency Retirement Assisted Living in July of 2006 where she resided until the time of her death. Laura was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain where she was active in Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and various committees, including the Luther Layman’s League. She was an avid Minnesota Twins and Chamberlain Cubs fan. She was honored in 1989 with a plaque for being Chamberlain Cubs Number One Fan, the Chamberlain Baseball Association Award for “The Three Grandmas”, which included LaVerle Speckels, Laura and Joyce Schaub, for their support of the baseball program, and on June 26, 2003 was honored with a lifetime pass to all Chamberlain High School, Legion, Teener and Junior Teener Baseball games. These plaques were always proudly displayed for everyone to see. Even though she didn’t have children of her own, her nieces and nephews and their children were a treasured part of her life. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her dearly.
