Read More	Transcription from Laura May Gragg Cordon's Obituary Published about April 1, 1967 submitted by Find A Grave contributor Marie Ann Dubus Garrett Laura May Gragg, the daughter of Job and Esther Gragg was born May 3, 1887 in Pringo (*1) county Iowa and was called to her eternal reward in the Holton Hospital March 31, 1967 at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 28 days. She received her education at Mt Ayer, Iowa and from there she went to St Paul, Minnesota where she received her nurses training and received the degree of R.N. However, as she later moved to Horton Where she worked and took more work to improve her training. For several years she did private nursing in Brown and Jackson counties. It was during these years that she met and married George Cordon on September 30, 1917, at Atchison. To this union on(e) daughter, Marilyn, was born. They estaablished their home on a farm near Ontario, where she joined the Methodist church and taught in the Sunday school. Here also they took in their Nephew, Hugh Everett Miller, then 8 years old and brought him up as one of the family to manhood. Her husband preceeded her to his reward in 1955. She was the last member of her family. Her parents, her brothers and sisters all preceded her in death. She continued to live at her home until about 1 1/2 years ago when with failing health she was forced to go to a nursing home, where she was until she entered the hospital before her passing. Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn and husband, Lawrence Askren of Circlevill; four grandsons and three granddaughters; nieces, and nephews and other relatives and many friends. She was a dutiful wife, a loving mother, diligent at her task, for her family and the neighborhood. She helped where ever there was a need. Service to others and especially the joy of her grandchildren were her delight and joy. A memorial service was held at the Mercer Funeral Home on April 2 at 2:30 p.m. Rev Alex Eckert officiated. Vocal music was furnished by Mrs Ila Rose Askren and Gary Brown. They were accompanied by Mrs Dean Stous. Pallbearers were Harold Karns, Stewart Miller, Garland Hune, Lester Wheeler, John Dugan and Wm. Mauersberger. Interment was in the Ontario cemetery.
