She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Pike, and sister, Ida Pike DeGoosh Barber. She attended local schools and graduated from Orford High School (Rivendell). In 1944, Laura graduated from Plymouth Teachers College (PSU) as an elementary educator. Laura was born Dec. 6, 1921, to Chester Pike and Corrine Camp. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Pike, and sister, Ida Pike DeGoosh Barber. She attended local schools and graduated from Orford High School (Rivendell). In 1944, Laura graduated from Plymouth Teachers College (PSU) as an elementary educator. She enjoyed years of teaching young people in Lyme, Orfordville, and later, many years at Thetford Vermont Elementary School. In 1946, Laura married Richard "Dick" DeGoosh. They lived in Washington state for a year and returned to Meriden, where they operated a farm. Laura and Dick had two children, Cynthia and Edward. By 1958, they moved the family to the DeGoosh homestead on Pinnacle Road in Lyme. Much of Laura's time was spent helping local organizations and causes, such as the Converse Free Library, the Lyme Congregational Church, the Utility Club, Bargain Barn and other fundraising activities. She also enjoyed traveling with family and friends.Laura is survived by her daughter, Cynthia D. Kurahara, and her husband, Mark; her son, Edward A. DeGoosh, and his wife, Gail; three grandchildren, Lindsay Kurahara, Patricia DeGoosh Devereux and her husband, Jim, and Katie DeGoosh and her fiancé, Eric DiMarzio; and two great-grandchildren, Mathias and Tristan Devereux. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, siblings-in-law, dear friends, colleagues and neighbors. SERVICES: A memorial service honoring her life will be held at the Lyme Congregational Church, Saturday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Gail Dimick. Memorial donations can be made to the Converse Free Library or Lyme Congregational Church or some other cause of one's own choice.
