Pleasant News, Nov. 19, 1929 Funeral Services for Mrs. Delvin Services At Cedar Church on Tuesday Afternoon with Mrs. Saums in Charge Funeral services for Mr. Laura Delvin were held at the Cedar church Tuesday afternoon, Nov 19, 1929, with Mr. Ethel E. Saums of God's Mission in Mt. Pleasant in charge. Short services of song and prayer led by Mrs. Lynne De Vore of new London, were held at the home before going to the church. The church was almost filled with sympathizing relatives and friends. Beautiful floral offerings spoke tenderly of love for this good woman. A mle quartet from Salem brought comforting messages in song. Following the services the sorrowing company went to the cemetery south of the church where amid beautiful surroundings the body was laid to rest. Laura Zarilda Delvin, daughter of Jasper and Mary Jane Van Dorin, was born in Tippecanoe township, Henry county, Iowa, March 11, 1872, and died Nov. 17, 1929 at the home of her sister, Mrs. Perry Mendenhall, near Salem, Iowa. She was the mother of three children, on daughter, Mrs. Bessie Lyman, preceeded her in death, Jan. 28, 1929; William F. Graham and Elsie Delvin of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, survived her; also three grandchildren survive her; (ed.--living). She also leaves to morn her passing three brother and one sister, W. N. Van Dorin of Salem; Lewis J. Van Dorin of Jackson township; Edward Van Dorin of Mt. Pleasant; Elsie Mendenhall of Salem. She united with the Christian church some years ago and of which denomination she was still a member. She was a hard working industrious woman and will be greatly missed by those to whom she was near and dear.
