Read More	GMC US NAVY VIETNAM OAKLAND -- Laurel Guy "Lollie" Bickford, 70, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at his residence, following a long illness. He was born in Oakland on April 7, 1933, the son of Guy and Myrtie (Brown) Bickford. Lollie attended local schools, graduating from Williams High School, class of 1951. He was employed as body shop foreman at Furbush Chevrolet in Oakland from 1956 until 1969. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 23 years, retiring in 1992. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member, past commander and chaplain of the Decker-Simmons Post, American Legion; and a member of the Ernest A. Rutter Post VFW, both in Oakland. Laurel lived most of his life in Oakland and Waterville, and was an avid stock car racer in the mid-1960s. He was predeceased by a son, Shawn Bickford, in 1998; and brothers Otis, Leo, Ronald, Earl, Roy and Maurice Bickford. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Donna (Richardson) Bickford; two daughters, Wanda Grant and husband David, and Lori Fortier and husband Donald, all of Oakland; a son, Timothy Bickford, of Oakland; a brother, Roger, of Oakland; three sisters, Gloria Thompson of Oakland, Gerry Grover of Fairfield and Charlene McMonagle of Philadelphia, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Tanya Butler and husband T.J., David L. Grant, Shonna Grant, Jonathan and Amanda Fortier, and Clinton, Kassandria, Sabrina and Natasha Bickford; two great-grandchildren, Tre and Julienne Butler; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visit 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday. Following cremation, spring burial will be in Oakland's Lewis Cemetery. (Kennebec Journal 3/25/2004)
