Mr. Lauren Oswell Lyons, 92, of Lambsburg, VA, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 11, 1920, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Cortez and Maggie Jarrell Lyons. Mr. Lyons was a retired United States Forest Service Ranger and was a member of Fairlawn Church of Christ in Galax, VA, where he was an elder and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Lauren Oswell Lyons, 92, of Lambsburg, VA, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 11, 1920, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Cortez and Maggie Jarrell Lyons. Mr. Lyons was a retired United States Forest Service Ranger and was a member of Fairlawn Church of Christ in Galax, VA, where he was an elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a man of faith and a well-loved husband, father, and grandfather. He served our country in the United States Army during Word War II in the Infantry Division and he was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Lyons graduated from Virginia Tech. He was owner and operator of Santa's Delight Christmas Tree Forest, and a member of the Christmas Tree Association. He is survived by his wife, Christine Sylvester Lyons of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Robert Luckey of Manteo, Delene and Edward Gibson of Kingsport, TN, Tina and Derrick Bowman of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Bethany Stutzman, Adam Luckey, Annalise Luckey, Grant Gibson, and Greg Gibson; a sister, Betty Lyons of Lambsburg, VA; and two brothers, Brady Lyons of Lambsburg, VA, and Randolph Lyons of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lyons was preceded in death by a sister, Claudia Bowman. The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Fairlawn Church of Christ, with Minister Nathan Crowe, Minister Bud Moore, and Minister Ken Overdorf officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with full military honors Grover King VFW Post 1115 Honor Guard of Hillsville, VA. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Fairlawn Church of Christ, 344 Coleman Ridge Road, Galax, VA 24333. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family. |
