Laurence Brent, 37, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Upperville, VA, took his own life early yesterday (Saturday, Nov. 18, 1933) by jumping from a third story window of the Westmoreland Club in Richmond. He was returning home from Bedford, where he had attended the burial of his brother, H. Mason Brent, who had died in Stamford, CT. Laurence Brent, 37, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Upperville, VA, took his own life early yesterday (Saturday, Nov. 18, 1933) by jumping from a third story window of the Westmoreland Club in Richmond. He was returning home from Bedford, where he had attended the burial of his brother, H. Mason Brent, who had died in Stamford, CT. At one time Mr. Brent served a parish in Rappahannock County, prior to which time he had served as a supply rector at the Episcopal Church at Colonial Beach. He was rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg from the fall of 1929 until August 1931, resigning to accept the call at Upperville. About a year ago he married Miss Elizabeth Wade Faulkner of Fredericksburg, who together with two brothers, Thomas W. Brent and John S. Brent, and a sister, Mrs. T. Boyd Taliaferro, all of Heathsville, survive. Funeral services were conducted at his old home at Heathsville, in Saint Stephen's P. E. Church on Sunday (Nov. 19) with Bishop St. George Tucker, Bishop F. D. Goodwin and Rev. Campbell Dewey Loving officiating. Burial was in the Brent burying ground. Rev. Brent was a son of the late Randolph Stith Brent and Laura de Sheilds Brent of Heathsville and had a host of admiring friends throughout this entire section. He was widely known among sportsmen in the Upperville and Warrenton region of Virginia. Active pallbearers were Hunter de Butts, Joshua Fletcher, Channing Delaplane, Lewis Armistead and Gwynn Tayloe, all of Upperville, and Rev. Van R. Stires. Honorary pallbearers were: Dr. Beverly Tucker, the Rev. Carter Harrison, Brooke Gochnauer, George R. Slater, E.S. Auty, Tom Glasscock, Col. M.G. Richardson, Dr. A.C. Randolph, George Gaither, Major Eugene Bradbury, Robert Fletcher, all of Upperville, VA; Edgar Anderson, Loman J. Rice, Charles B. Hogan, Howard R. Straughan, Dr. R.E. Booker, E. Hugh Smith, Henry M. Walker, M. Warren Rowe, T. Edward Hall, Paul Pusey, J. Snowden Hudnall, John Caskie, Chowning Hall, A. W. Swann, Bertram Thomas, Hume Dortch, F. D. Thornton, Meade S. Brent, William S. Brent, Charles W. Sherrin and Mr. King.
