Description	:	Laurence G. Vanderbush, a long-time resident of Hot Springs Village, died Feb. 6, 2007. He was 85 years old. He was born March 4, 1921, at Edgerton, Minnesota, to Edward and Henrietta Vanderbush and attended school in Edgerton until entering college at Pella, Iowa. He attended the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1944 from the university's dental school. He was born March 4, 1921, at Edgerton, Minnesota, to Edward and Henrietta Vanderbush and attended school in Edgerton until entering college at Pella, Iowa. He attended the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1944 from the university's dental school. He practiced dentistry at Clear Lake, S.D. from 1944 to 1974 and held various offices of the Watertown Dental Association and various civic organizations. In 1945, he married his beloved wife and partner of 61 years, Mabel Gustavson. The Vanderbush's lived in Clear Lake until 1976 when they moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. For seven years he was a distributor of livestock equipment in South Dakota and neighboring areas of Iowa and Minnesota. Dr. Vanderbush retired in 1980 and he and his wife moved to Hot Springs Village. He enjoyed being active whether working or fly fishing in Canada, elk hunting, traveling and spending winters in Hawaii with his many friends and family. He was a faithful Lutheran wherever he resided. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Howard, Marvin, Henry and Raymond. Survivors include his wife, Mabel; sons Ross Vanderbush and his wife, Patricia; Lee Vanderbush and his wife, Irene; five grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 9, 2007 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hot Springs Village. Burial will be at the Lake View Cemetery in Clear Lake, S.D. Biography from the book, "A Precious Legacy, 1884-1984 Clear Lake" Dr. Laurence Vanderbush Practices Dentistry in Clear Lake for 29 years Dr. Laurence G. Vanderbush, a native of Minnesota and a graduate of the University of Minnesota Dental School, came to Clear Lake directly following his graduation to set up a practice. Dr. Vanderbush came to Clear Lake in 1944 and retired in 1973. He was born to Edward and Henriette (Beyer) Vanderbush near Edgerton, Minn. After completing 12 years of school at Edgerton he attended Central College at Pella, Ia. for one year before enrolling at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He graduated in 1944 with a D.D.S. degree. He was united in marriage to Mabel J. Gustavson, granddaughter of two Deuel county homesteading families. Mabel attended Deuel county schools, with the exception of two years, and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1941. She was a Law Office secretary in Clear Lake for four years before her marriage. In 1954 Dr. Vanderbush built a Dental Office on Main Street of Clear Lake on the same lot that his wife's great-uncle ran a Wagon Making Shop in 1888. Incidently, Dr. Vanderbush also had a great-uncle that ran a Wagon Shop in the early years. Two sons were born to the Vanderbush's: Lee J. and Ross Edward. Both Lee and Ross received their entire grade and high school educations at Clear Lake. Lee graduated from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, in 1967 and has been a Conservation Officer with the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks since 1967. He is Fisheries Specialist and lives at Rapid City. Ross attended S.D. State University, Brookings, graduating with a degree in Pharmacy in 1973. He earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Tennessee Medical Units, Memphis, TN. in 1974. He was still with the University in a teaching capacity until 1982, when he became a clinical pharmacist for Saline County Hospital at Benton, Ark. Dr. and Mrs. Vanderbush live at Sioux Falls and maintain a summer cabin at Lake Cochrane.
