Laurie's obituary appears on Saturday, October 22, 1949, page 2, in the Sioux City [Iowa] Journal: Funeral services for Laurie P. Marx, 56, West hotel, a real estate salesman who died Thursday at a hospital after suffering a heart attack Tuesday, will be held at 9 a.m. today at the Cathedral of Epiphany. Rt. Rev. Msgr, Julius J. Berger will officiate, and burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery at LeMars. The rosary was recited Friday evening at the Rutledge funeral home. Laurence was married to Nina Marguerite Sullivan (1892-1979) on March 6, 1916, in the Immaculate Conception Church, Cherokee, Iowa. He and Nina are the parents of Imelda Mary Sullivan D. "Immy" Marx (later Young) born February 24, 1917, in Cherokee. In his early years, Laurie helped local farmers, but by the time he registered for the draft in 1917, he sold real estate and automobiles. In 1929 he is a home owner , and his mother -in-law is part of the family. Divorced by 1940, he continues selling cars. He was described by a family friend as a gracious, friendly person whom others enjoyed being around. More importantly his daughter had fond memories of visits with him. Nevertheless, his six grandchildren may never have met him.
