Waggoner, 67, of 630 1/2 East Fourteenth street, doorman at the Garden theater, died eight house later in St. Luke's hospital as the result of the injureis. His death brought the traffic toll for Davenport this year to four. Waggoner, according to a report made to police, was struck by an automobile driven by Louis Gorence, 52, of 720 West Fourteenth street. The victim suffered a skull fracture, broken right leg and body bruises. According to the information received by police, Waggoner was en route to his home after having finished work at the theater when the accident occurred. It was learned he had ridden a bus to Thirteenth street and Grand avenue and walked north on Grand avenue to Fourteenth street. He was crossing Fourteenth street when he was hit by the car. According to police, Gorence who was driving a 935 model Dodge sedan, said he was traveling west on Fourteenth street at the rate of about 20 miles an hour. Swered Car: "At the intersection of Grand avenue, I saw a figure flash in front of my car and I swerved to the right," Gorence said, "and the left front fender of the automobile struck Waggoner. I made ever effort to avoid hitting him." Gorence reported that Waggoner was crossing the intersection diagnonally in a northwesterly direction from the southwest to the north curb when he was struck. "There is a dark spot west of the intersection that is not covered by the street light," Gorence said, "and the man was in that spot when he was hit." Gorence was en route to his home from work at the Bettendorf Co. Riding in his car were Robert Klingman, 629 West Fourteenth street, and Paul Steinman, 1228 Sturdevant street. When police were notified of the accident, the city ambulance was sent to the scene and Waggoner was removed to the hospital. Scott County Coroner Frank C. Keppy, who also investigated the case, said an inquest probably will be held next week. Mr. Waggoner, resident of Davenport since 1904, was born in Buffalo, Oct. 21, 1879. He married Henriette Messer in Blue Grass, Oct. 11, 1904. Following their marriage the couple came to Davenport and Mr. Waggoner operated the "Best" moving picture theater located near Fourth and Brady streets, where the Democrat newspaper plant now stands. He later entered the insurance field. Survivors inlcude his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Ben Litscher, Davenport, and a granddaughter, Miss Elizabeth Ann Litscher, also of this city. The body was removed to Hill & Fredericks mortuary, where services will be held in the chapel at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Blue Grass cemetery.
