Description	:	LaVan Ketels, 93 of Montezuma, died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehab Center. LaVan Etha Ketels was born June 9, 1919 in Marengo, Iowa the daughter of Floyd and Myrtle Dewald Ward. She married Virgil Walsh in 1937. The couple own and operated a salvage yard and a gas station in Montezuma. Over time LaVan could work on car engines as well as any man. She also worked at Brownells for twenty seven years. Read More	LaVan Ketels, 93 of Montezuma, died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehab Center. LaVan Etha Ketels was born June 9, 1919 in Marengo, Iowa the daughter of Floyd and Myrtle Dewald Ward. She married Virgil Walsh in 1937. The couple own and operated a salvage yard and a gas station in Montezuma. Over time LaVan could work on car engines as well as any man. She also worked at Brownells for twenty seven years. LaVan loved preparing meals for her family and friends. She was a delightful host and outstanding cook. Anyone who has sat at her table knew you did not leave hungry. LaVan was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church, UMC and the Garden Club. Most recently she enjoyed volunteering at the Montezuma Nursing Home calling bingo. She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands: Virgil Walsh and Walter Ketels: a very good friend. Loel Ferguson; three sisters and a brother: Ileen Bauman, Alberta Mason, Vera Kaldenburg and Lawrence Ward. LaVan is survived by a daughter, Marna(Ted)Kudart; a son, Keith Walsh; three grandchildren: Kevin Kudart, Karla Bauer and Kim Greginson; five great grandchildren: Kolten Kudart, Kyler Kudart, Brianne Watson, Paige Watson and Canden Watson. She also leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Ward and Janice Jones. Funeral services will begin at 11 am Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am Monday and last until the time of service. Burial will be in the Jackson Township Cemetery at Montezuma Community Development or to the Montezuma United Methodist Women.
