She died Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Premier Estates in Pierce. 1920-2018 Born Dec. 8, 1930, in rural Pierce, LaVerda Kruger was the daughter of Walter and Clara (Herbolsheimer) Nitz. She was baptized on Dec. 21, 1930, and confirmed June 20, 1943, both at Zion East Lutheran Church in rural Hoskins. She graduated from Pierce High School in 1948. LaVerda married Darrell Kruger on Feb. 8, 1954, at Zion East Lutheran Church in rural Hoskins. After marriage, they farmed northeast of Pierce in Pierce and Wayne counties until 1983. LaVerda and Darrell then moved into Pierce, where they both managed the Pierce Golf Course. LaVerda loved teaching the word of God through Sunday school, as well as Bible school. She was always full of love and compassion toward her family and friends, for whom she cared for very much. LaVerda had many hobbies, such as scrapbooking, coloring pictures, playing the organ, as well as playing cards. After the death of Darrell, LaVerda resided at The Meadows in Norfolk. She was at Premier Estates a short time. She was a past member of Zion East Lutheran Church in rural Hoskins, was a Sunday school teacher and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of rural Pierce, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Legion Auxilliary. Survivors include a son, Kevin (Julie) Kruger of Omaha; two daughters, Sandra Christensen of Norfolk and Carol (Ted Jr.) Taylor of Pierce; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; her siblings, Marlyn (Laurita) Nitz of Pierce, Marci (Jim) Siedschlag of Norfolk, Milford Nitz of Norfolk and Galen (Debbie) Nitz of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Clara; her spouse, Darrell who passed away Sept. 2, 2010; and a brother, Arvin. Organist will be Jean Zautke with congregational hymns being “Amazing Grace,” “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” “Abide with Me” and “Beautiful Savior.” Casketbearers will be Ted Taylor III, Casey Christensen, Kent Kruger, Mark Siedschlag, Aaron Schmitz and Nick Kruger. Honorary casketbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Nancy Christensen, Paula Christensen, Shauna Kruger, Nicholas Kruger, Alyssa Krula, Allison Christensen, Jack Taylor, Emily Christensen, Lauren Taylor, Harriet Schmitz, Arial Jenkins and Eric Jenkins.
