Liston, 97, of Hooper, formerly of Nickerson, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at Hooper Care Center. She was born Jan. 21, 1911 in rural Nickerson to John and Jessie (Bahner) Ehninger. She grew up on the family farm and attended District 20 school. She graduated from Hooper High School and then attended Fremont Normal where she received her teaching certificate. She taught at School Districts 75 and 20 for six years. She married William J. Liston on June 4, 1935, at her parents? home in Nickerson. The couple farmed in the area until retiring in 1972. LaVerle and William moved into Hooper in 1983. Her husband preceded her in death in 1999. She was an organizer and charter member of the Elkhorn Valley Extension Club and served on the Dodge County Extension Board. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, formerly Grace Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school and was a member of the Lutheran Church Women and Altar Guild. LaVerle?s community involvement included membership in the Hooper Women?s Club, Christian Women?s Club, Dodge County Republican Party, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 200 of Fremont and leadership in Girl Scouts and 4-H. She and William traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Survivors include: a daughter, Linda ?Sunny? Liston of West Des Moines, Iowa; two sons, Ron (and wife, Linda) Liston of Lincoln and Duane (and wife, Fran) Liston of Nickerson; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Liston of Fremont; six grandchildren, Kimberly (and husband, Keith) Walberg of Rocklin, Calif., Jennifer (and husband, Kip) Edmonds of Gretna, Nikki (and husband, Steve) Swanson of Uehling, Erin (and husband, Jeff) Loock of Saddlebrook, N.J., John Liston of Los Gatos, Calif., and Devon (and wife, Pam) Liston of Nickerson; and 15 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marguerite Brand. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper with the Rev. Joel Schroeder officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Ludvigsen?s Hooper Funeral Chapel with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Hooper Cemetery.
