Mr. Ball, of 3002 14th Street, died Wednesday morning at Behlen Memorial Hospital after an illness of seven weeks. He was born Jan. 12, 1886, at Mt. Hope, Grant County, Wis., the son of Elsworth and Minnie Tubbs Ball, and was graduated from high school at Petersburg, Neb. Mr. Ball and his wife, Sara K., were married Oct. 6, 1909, at Madison. After graduation from high school, Mr. Ball moved with his parents to Albion, where over the years he was a teller at First National Bank, officer of Farmers State Bank, then engaged in many years of farming and livestock raising. He later operated a booterie, and with his wife organized and operated a physicians' hospital. Moving to Genoa in 1931, he managed a Kent and Burke Ranch for several years, then managed livestock sale barns in Elgin and Bloomfield before returning to Albion and farming in 1940. In the fall of 1943, he moved to Columbus, and after his retirement from Montgomery Ward worked as a bookkeeper at Columbus Plumbing & Heating and Columbus Industrial Supply until his permanent retirment [sic]. He made his home in Columbus with a son-in-law and daughter. Mr. Ball was a member by affiliation of Lebanon Lodge No. 323, A.F. & A.M., and was membership pin [sic] April 5, 1971. For many years he was a member of the Albion Volunteer Fire Department, was a longtime 4-H leader, and worked with the Boy Scouts until the past year. He became a member of the Congregational Church of Albion in 1915 and upon moving to Columbus he transferred membership to the Federated Church, where he was an active member until his death. An avid reader and sportsman, hunting and fishing occupied his time until his final illness. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. L.A. (Gwendolyn) Noble of Albion and Mrs. L.O (Kathryn) Deden of Columbus; two granddaughters, Mrs. John (Geraldine) Beckmann of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Mrs. Dan (Jennie) Behles of Carlsbad, N.M.; nine great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren, 32 step-great-grandchildren, 12 step-great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Ball was preceded in death by his wife, Sara, in 1963; a son-in-law, Dean O. Meyers; two grandson[s]; his parents and only brother. The family suggests that memorials be directed to Federated Church or the Platte College Foundation, to be used for student nursing purposes. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion. Masonic services were conducted by Lodge 78 of Albion. Pallbearers were Jack Noble, Alton Noble, Carroll Noble, Robert Reynoldson, Charles Stelley and L.A. (Bud) Noble. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Bargmann, E.C. Brown, Paul H. Nyffeler, Roy N. Nauenburg, Emil N. Schaefer and Jerry Spatz. McKown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
