Lavern Byron Wismer was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 17, 1927 to Byron and Mabel (Caltvedt) Wismer. In 1929 they moved to the McCallsburg, Iowa area. He graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1945. He enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. After high school he joined the Navy where he served for two years. Wismer (Bebe), 80, passed away peacefully at his home in McCallsburg on May 5, 2008. He had cancer. Lavern Byron Wismer was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 17, 1927 to Byron and Mabel (Caltvedt) Wismer. In 1929 they moved to the McCallsburg, Iowa area. He graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1945. He enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. After high school he joined the Navy where he served for two years. He then attended UNI for three years. On November 30, 1957 he married Shirley Coletta Stackhouse at St. Gabriel's Church in Zearing, Iowa, and moved to Chicago, IL where he was a Tuck Pointer and Mail Carrier. Their six children were all born in High land Park, IL. In the summer of 1974 he moved the family back to McCallsburg where he worked for the Nevada School system until retiring in 1989. His hobbies included gardening, cutting wood and fishing. He returned to work part-time at the VF Mall in Story City until the fall of 2006 when his health began to decline. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Evelyn and a brother-in-law, John Jacobson.
